Blankets...

Brought a load of blankets downtown to the Men's Mission.  Got a chance to hear all that they do down there and how the blankets will be a huge help to those staying there.
Back at the church we talked about Prayer...the last in our series on Spiritual Disciplines.
We talked about whether or not prayer changes God's mind or alters His plans for us...a big/tough topic.  Ultimately, we saw that both in the example of Abraham praying for Sodom and Gomorrah and in Jesus' prayer in the garden before He's betrayed, we need to put our heart's desires before God but be obedient to what He's got next for us.  This presents the possibility of heart break, disappointment, and sadness when things don't go as we want/pray...but it also brings with it the freedom to be honest with God, to have God respond to our desires in ways we not only hoped, but also in ways we couldn't even imagine...

Next week is the Christmas party...it's on FRIDAY the 17th, here at the church, 7-10pm...you won't want to miss it...bring a friend!

Blanket Handout

This week we'll be collecting all the blankets everyone's been getting their hands on (that means you!).  We'll be headed downtown to hand them out and to chat about Prayer.  Please bring as many blankets as you can get your hands on and come be a part of making a difference in a bunch of people's lives on Thursday.
Next Friday (the 17th) is our Sr.High Christmas Party here at the church from 7-10pm.  You won't want to miss it, so plan now to come and bring a friend!

December 2nd

Hungout tonight and played some group games, did some improv, played some ultimate basketball, and ended up with some guys locked in a small upper room :) The chat for the night was based around the second-last Spiritual Discipline in this series: keeping a journal/log...something that seems to be a heck of a lot more natural for girls than guys :p

It's kinda crazy to think that it's not really a 'guy thing' when we see David in the Bible contributing a HUGE number of 'journal entries' via the Psalms.  He's honest with God about how he's feeling, comments on when God showed up, and also how great God is.  This type of thing serves as a great tool for us to see God really working in our own lives and also how we're growing in our relationship with Him.

Try it...once a week...jot down a few things about the week that just happened and/or the week that's coming...ask God some questions...tell Him how you're really feeling...then brace yourself when you look back over a while and see how He's there more than you thought He was...

Don't forget to be collecting blankets for handing out downtown next week!!

the 25th...taking scripture with you...

Good night tonight...coffee house style atmosphere...great hot chocolate, apple cider, chocolate hazelnut roll-stick things...and a whole bunch of skits...talkin about how to get God's Word into our everyday situations...
We talked also about www.biblegateway.com and another site on modesty that Chantel will post on the facebook group page in a day or so....
Don't forget the Blanket Drive is in full swing...we'll be handing them out two weeks!!

In case you weren't here tonight, forgot your sheet, or just wanted a digital copy of the McNabb Answer sheet from tonight...here it is (yep, it's long):
Future Plans -  (million questions)
Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Lust – (tv late at night)
Job 31
1 “I made a covenant with my eyes
not to look lustfully at a young woman.

Matthew 5:28
“But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

Psalm 23
“the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…”

Gossip – (elevator scene)
Ephesians 4:29
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Fear – (NY alley)
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me

Self-esteem – (talk)
Usually rooted in lack of self-worth.
1 John 4:10 (MSG)
This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they've done to our relationship with God.

Repeat Offender – (ex: lying to parents)
Romans 7:15, 19 – “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do…For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.”

Dealing with Family – (beating on your brother)
1 John 4:20-21 – “Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”

Deuteronomy 11:18
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

Yep

Just Passed (the 18th): We met at the church for 7pm, counted all 474 Operation Christmas Child boxes that  were brought in by New Hope, delivered them all, hit DQ and then came back to the church around 9pm for some more hangout time.
Was great to pray over the boxes before sending them out and that Jesus would be known by the kids receiving them.

Next Week (the 25th): We'll be offsite for some community outreach...stay tuned for details!
